1st off, love the new destroyer!!! (seems like it is back to the old destroyer, so I still can't get over the irony of the name ) anways I looked at the cover for "coke hold" just now and noticed that there is no number on that one either...is the new destroyer doing away with the number system entirely? I was wondering if it was just strating over but that seems not to be the case...if anybody knows I would appreciate it! |

No numbers on these new ones, Honeycutt. That's a new change . . . along with the byline from Mullaney . . . and BETTER COVERS! (Heh, heh.) _________________ The floater stroke . . . still the coolest Sinanju technique. |

I saw nothing bad with the numbers. It helped keep the series in order.

Not to mention if you missed one, it was easier to identify when looking for it.
I don't plan on missing any, but I hadn't planned on missing any before. (Actually I didn't miss any. I loaned them out and they didn't return. Or they got lost in the couple of moves since '75. Not exactly sure what happened to them.)

I am in the same boat as you, Fred. I have 3 missing that I intentionally took a pass on( 132-133 and 145), but in looking at my collection the other day, I noticed I don't have #80, 102 and 130.I know I "loaned" them out at different times. Too bad they disappeared, forever. I no longer "loan" Destroyers, or any other book I value... _________________ Sunshine IS nicer, DAMMIT! |

I also keep my collection of Destroyer books in numerical order. Without the numbers , how will I know if I skip a book? Sometimes too many "Chefs" in the kitchen can turn any recipe sour. I honestly do not think this is a good move for the Destroyer Series. However like any series on tv there is already an episode number for each episode. Shows will always run in that order in sydication. I guess I will have to check with the Destroyer website list to make sure I have them all. _________________ Take Care & God Bless

I am in total agreement on the "too many Chefs" part. I have always been impressed with the fact that Warren and Mullaney were accessible to the fans. It sets them apart from many other authors. I just hope that they don't pay TOO much attention to the fans. The squeaky wheels sure got the grease in this instance. That is ceratin.
If the fans could actually write successfully(meaning sales), we would be too busy doing it to post here, or anywhere else but our own websites. These guys have a proven track record of writing Destroyers.
We should let them do it. Alone. We pay our money so we have a right to comment if we want, but sometimes noisemakers can do as much harm as good.
Fan input is fine for the boards, not the content of the books. It's a fine line. The authors who have control ( whoever they may be) must make the decisions.Writing and book marketing are not nearly as easy as digging ditches, or building houses. If they were, everyone would be doing it. Either Warren and Mullaney, or the Tor folks( or both) have decided on no numbers. I can live with it, just like I lived with squids. Covers mean little to me, it's content that I worry about. The numbers will be missed by me, no mistake, but my main concern is letting the folks with the knowhow write the books. From where I stand right now, the covers and the numbers are the least of the problems.Maybe they should have labeled it 132, if 132-145 never happened I just don't know...
Still, I'm looking forward to ND2( I paid my money, I can number it if I want!). We will see what happens _________________ Sunshine IS nicer, DAMMIT! |
