Coincidentally just finished High Priest as I discover this reserved Grandmaster thread. Haven't read Grandmaster though.
Enjoyed this book. A little dated reading it 19 years after it was published. Hit the shelves in 1987 so it has a very 80's world view.
The Grandmaster is very lethal. Liked the supernatural overtones. Parallels with the Destroyer, Kali and Shiva. Poor Alexander Zharkov
(kind of the Dutchman to the Grandmaster's Remo) really gets put through the ringer at Lubyanka and the prison camp until the Grandmaster rescues him. I'll have to find a copy of the original and find out what happened in Cuba.
Liked the old CIA spy and the Russian trapeze artist although I would have preferred if she'd lived and lived happily ever after with the Grandmaster.
Good read.

Damn ! I was hoping to be the first one to post here as well. but I was going to scan back through them to refresh, so I didn't make any silly blunders I loved both of these books. They are my favorite non-Destroyer books by Warren ( and Molly) fast paced, compelling story. A fun read. I cared about the characters. While he's no Remo, the Grandmaster is what the Destroyer probably would have been, had Warren and Dick written it "straight". The paralells are there.
Don't get me wrong, I still prefer Remo, but anyone who loves the Destroyer should surely find and read these two.
Hell, buy them from Warren, if he has some.
