Months ago I placed Guardian Angel on Pre-Order with Amazon. Being a soldier in Afghanistan means that new books get ordered, shipped to my home, where my brother repackages them and ships them out to me in the warzone. Indirect, but surprisingly efficient.
So it was with disappoint when I got an automated message from Amazon that they were unable to ship Guardian Angel. I don't remember the specific error, but they refunded my money.
Now cue back to here in Afghanistan, only days later. I walked into the PX, which is a sort of drug store for soldiers, and there on the book rack was Guardian Angel. Imagine my surprise!
The books they often get at the PX are years out of date, they've had Star Trek Next Generation paperbacks and even books from Starcraft. So it was a real treat to get this book brand new, hot off the press. (Or hot off the Air Force plane that delivered it.)
I've read the preface that both Warren Murphy and Jim Mullaney wrote re-introducing the series, and am about to eagerly delve into the new adventure. But I wanted to share my joy as an American soldier to be able to read the Destroyer in a place where the enemy wants us Americans dead. Thanks, guys!

That's great news, Ogami. Good to know Tor's getting the books shipped to a PX. And if it's at your base, I'm hoping it's at others overseas. That is almost a certainty, Donna. I'll give a funny example.
Last year the PX at a base in Arizona got in a delivery of new DVD movies, one of them was Brokeback Mountain.
Now I should not have to explain to anyone why Brokeback Mountain would be a poor seller on any American military base. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but probably not the top selling DVD with the military.
Since then, I have seen Brokeback Mountain at every military base since then, every one of them has it. Call it a joke by someone ordering, I don't know. But if it's at one PX, it's at all of them.
Same for Destroyer novels, where I also bought the last "old" Destroyer, Dragon Bones.
(And yes, I am one of those who wondered what was going on with the last dozen Destroyer novels, and had stopped buying them before Dragon Bones.)
