RUBY

Warren Murphy--The Author's Discussion Board: Favorite villain? character?: RUBY
By Scott Edgerton on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 - 01:57 am:

I don't know about the rest of you, but I personally loved Ruby.

She was stereo-typical, and the aboslute anti-stereo type at the same time.

In modern terms, I picture her as played by Beynoce Knowles (of "Goldmember" fame)

I miss her. (Sniff)

I just wonder what happened to her.

I am missing about six of the books from the series...does any of the books explain what happened, or did she just disappear?

Oh, and I am almost purposely NOT getting those last six.

Once I have all of the series, there are no more "new" books from Warren and Dick for me to read.

By Honeycutt on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 - 03:52 am:

hahaah.........nice one on the books but, yeah they do explain what happens to her. Kinda of an interesting twist. sorry unfourtantly, I don't remember exactly which one it is. You know what would be interesting, is if Remo were to meet up with one of ruby's children, or nephews, or something of the sort. But that's just me.

just in case i forget, ruby lived, and i loved her dearly and she still wanders around somewhere in all my writings....

By ConservativeX on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 12:37 am:

I don't remember her quitting; I'll check my collection and see if I have #40; if I do, I will re-read it.

Warren, tell her we said "Hi" next time you see her!

By ConservativeX on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 - 03:30 pm:

Man, I'm missing #38-46!

I must have loaned them to someone but I forgot who.

:(

I will hit the used book store this weekend and see if I can find them.

Didn't she reappear running a wig factory in Richmond, and help out Remo on something later on?

By joseph on Saturday, October 25, 2003 - 11:49 pm:

Her bother was kidnapped from the Wig factory in Chained Reaction. She seeks out Remo who is doing commercials. She reconizes his fast hands if I'm not mistaken.

If memory serves . . .

In Destroyer 41, Firing Line, Remo is ordered to whack Ruby by Smith (for some security reason). Remo gets pissed and refuses. But (as fate could have it) it later appears as if Ruby perishes in a fire (remember Sparky, the villian in that book who starts fires?).

However, Ruby just made it look like she died in the flames. Chiun, however, knows that she is still alive and later Remo learns. They decide to let Smith stay in the dark.

So Ruby is still alive. (FYI: Murphy said that he couldn't have killed her because Ruby was his lady at the time and she would have eaten him alive if he had whacked her character in the books.)

What Murphy was dating a real life Ruby at the time? I always liked the way Murph and Sap worked around the Smith factor and kept Ruby and Anna Chutesov in play ( Anna was Jim but same thing)and I seem to recall there were other minor characters that Remo managed to keep Smith in the dark over.

By FunkyIke66 on Monday, November 15, 2004 - 05:59 pm:

The Murphy who was dating a real-life Ruby was, of course, Warren back in the '70s. (Not that I'm his personal biographer.)

THEN I didn't care for the Ruby character because I felt she got in the way of the CURE trio.

TODAY however, I'm a bit sentimental for her because her type of female character (tough) really reminds me of the '70s when I was a kid, and I now recognize and respect her place among the chronology of the series.
